Biopolymer Solutions was formed in 2003 in order to provide the Food Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry and the Food Ingredients sector with a service incorporating a wide range of analytical techniques and expertise provided by their founder members. Professor John Mitchell and Professor Sandra Hill are highly regarded in biopolymer research, with over 50 years of combined experience in the field. John was awarded the Food Hydrocolloids Trust Medal for his contribution to research and teaching in the hydrocolloids field and was elected a Fellow of the International Union of Food Science and Technology. He is founding editor of the international journal Carbohydrate Polymers. In 2008 John retired from a full time position at the University to give more time to Biopolymer Solutions Ltd. He was replaced by Professor Sandra Hill as head of the Food Structure Group at the University.
Sandra recently moved from a full time position and is now extensively involved with consultancy work particularly in the starch area.
Between them Sandra and John have undertaken work for more than thirty companies and as such have extensive experience of project management.
The company is a member of the European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence Business and Industry Club and staff have played an important role in the organisation of international meetings in the area of starch and other polysaccharide.
